Anyone up for some Sports?

My next adventure was for my brothers cake. I made my youngest brother a basketball cake. That was interesting as well. Now that i had all my recipes down and textures and all that good stuff it was time to stack one cake onto another.... Needless to say I did learn a lot again. It turned out to be a sucess and it looked really cute! My oldest brother LOVES the Cowboys and had told me that he wanted a helmet cake with them on it! Mission accomplished!! He loved his cake and I was extremely happy with how it turned out! The next sports cake I made was for a friends son. He likes the Patriots and the only way I knew how to incorporate them was edible art...that was a learning process as well. It can be tricky but it reallly set his cake off. Not only did I accomplish this but they wanted the football to be standing up like it had been thrown that way. I used "rice cake" (aka rice krispy treats) for the football that way it would be able to stand up and wouldn't be too heavy! I then made a soccer cake. It was an interesting process as i tried to get the pattern just right, in the end it all matched up and turned out perfect. My next sports themed cake was a golf cake. It was one of my favorite cakes so far, it was a challenge and that was fun. I also was able to just go with what I thought and that always makes it fun. I made it for one of my favorite customers! Don't get me wrong now I love all of my customers, everytime I have one and get to make a cake for someone I thank God and feel so blessed to be chosen for the occassion; but this one keeps coming back and always trust me to figure out what will work for the occasion she is needing a cake for! The golf bag was so cute in the end and I was excited to hear what her son thought of the cake.

Learning Process...

I have made many cakes since the dino cake for my son, with each one I have learned so much and even experimented with icing to find what everyone seems to like the best. My first cake after the dino cake I made for someones boss. It is the one with black spots, after it I experimented with icing and made my own. The next one was for my brothers girlfriend. I made her a star cake and would love to see how it would look now if I made it. I should do that! I have since updated my icing to something that works so much better. It was a learning process for me, the icing kept melting on me and was too thin. I have since not had that problem but I think that it turned out pretty good for my first one made from homemade icing.

How I Started

I started making cakes simply by the Grace of
God. I have always enjoyed baking, I enjoy the
whole process and my very favorite part is the
end process and seeing the finished product. I got this love from my grandmother. She was the best baker I've ever known and I always enjoyed helping her in the kitchen. She sure knew her stuff. I cherish the recipes she gave me and this talent that I believe I got from her.
We had a function at church and I made my double
fudge chocolate coca-cola cake. It was a big hit
to say the least! My Pastor enjoyed it so much
he asked me if I would make one for him for
Thanksgiving to share with his family. I agreed
and he also sold several for me and I also sold several to people at the church. $5.00 of every cake went to the building fund at church. After all that I decided to make my sons birthday cake for his 1st birthday. I figured why not. I made him a dino cake and his own personal cake as well. It was also a hit and from there I started making cakes for different people for different occasions. I give God all the glory for my gift. Without him blessing me with this talent it would not be possible.
